Back to the Grind

It is quite relieving, I find, to be able to work at the Shop again. For quite a few weeks, we were inundated with Pumpkin Festival coordination and normal every day work, leaving no time at all to dedicate to the Daily Pie building.

Earlier in the week, I sowed a 25kg bag of lawn seed for an area at the front of the Shop measuring 150 square metres. Grandpa has been watering the seeds twice a day. He is a man on a mission and determined to keep said seeds in a state of perpetual dampness, which they desperately need to germinate.
It's a good thing to keep Grandpa busy. Prior to his new project, I caught him on his hands and knees, weeding a summer planted garden bed at the Grand's Cottage. He had finished weeding half of the length of the bed, but my eye kept on returning to the first part. It seemed so 'empty' looking, compared to the unweeded half. On closer inspection, Grandpa had pulled several good plants out of their holes. "I wasn't sure whether they were plants or weeds", he said "... So when in doubt, pull it out. That's my motto". Granny, was not impressed "See why I do these things myself?"
I dug through the pile of uprooted greenery and found the 'good' plants which Grandpa had considered weeds. As he continued pulling REAL weeds, I edged behind him, replanting those good flowers and shrubs he had discarded...
On Mother's day, both of the girls had to work. I had breakfast with my men and went over to the Grands to cut Granny's hair. Surprisingly, it looks good - no thanks to my cutting skills, but rather to my mam's beautiful square face and hair-model head. We had tea and laughed a lot, and later, I mowed and edge-trimmed the lawns at the Cottage. Remnants of unwanted items, - all connected with renovating a house and Shop were cleared from the premises and packed onto the trailer, in readiness for the Machinist's trip to our local tip. We load the trailer as full as possible, hoping that if the Machinist loses his bartering power with the local tip guy, at least there will be value for (tipping) money.
After hard day's of graft - difficult manual labour for all, this is how the Machinist gets his kicks - by messing with our Staffy, Bob while he is in a deep doggie sleep: he gently lifts his lips and tucks them under ...
Savage dog (not)... and can you believe Bob's still in a deep sleep here?

On the other couch, Polly, ever-protective and possessive of me, sleeps with one eye open, while one of the 'twin puppies', - Lily is also in a very relaxed and dopey state. You can see where I got up and out of the coccoon blankie to take these pics ...

Small, foolish things.....
